Used Wheel Loader For Sale: How To Inspect Before You Pay

A used wheel loader can deliver most of the productivity of a new machine at a fraction of the cost — but only when its condition is documented rather than described. Overseas buyers rarely have the option to walk the yard, so the inspection package becomes the product.

Start with the powertrain. Ask for an engine compression and cold-start test, recorded on video without cuts, plus transmission shift and torque-converter pressure readings. Axles, final drives and the braking system come next; leaks at the final drives are common on machines that have worked in quarry conditions. Hydraulics should be tested for pump flow, cylinder drift and line condition under load, not at idle.

Then look at the structure. Frame welds, the bucket and the lift arms should be crack-checked, because structural repair is the one problem you cannot fix cheaply after the machine lands. Photograph the pin bores and the bucket cutting edge.

Verify the hours. An hour meter photo alongside the machine serial plate, plus fluid analysis, tells you whether the reported hours are plausible. Oil sample results showing high iron or silicon are a stronger signal than any seller description.

Finally, control the payment. A sensible structure is a 30% deposit, with the balance released only after you or an appointed inspector such as SGS or BV signs off on the machine.
